Week 20 Weigh-In

This morning I weighed 315 lbs. This is 0.4 lbs. less than last week making for a total 65 lbs. loss. My body fat measured at 35.3% with 203.8 lbs. lean mass and 111.2 lbs. fat. This would mean that body fat went down 1.7%, lean mass went up 5.1 lbs and fat went down 5.5 lbs.

Still, I am not convinced about the accuracy of my measurements for calculating my body fat, but it's really the only tool I have at my disposal right now. I did read somewhere that the lean mass in the obese can be higher than what that person's lean mass will be at a healthy body fat. IOW, the high lean mass I have may also decrease as I lose fat. That does not mean a reduction in muscle. I suppose you don't retain as much water and other stuff.

Conclusion: Even though the body fat numbers look good, I am not putting too much stock into them yet because I am not certain of the accuracy of my measurements (especially the waist and hip). I see that I basically maintained overall weight this week. That is okay with me, I had two fantastic weeks of loss previous.

I ate healthy last week and exercised well. I got in some unexpected exercise on Saturday. Off and on during the last month I have been trying to teach my 7 year old to ride a bike. She is a little big (not fat, but tall) and awkward for her age. So I would jog beside her straightening her when she tipped. Going up and down the block twice was always her limit. Saturday, she finally got the hang of it. She was riding her bike on her own, but she still needed me to run beside her for comfort. The problem is that she was going much faster and wanted to keep going all afternoon. We must have gone back and forth ten times (with some breaks in between) and I was exhausted. Heh, maybe I will start jogging sooner than I thought whether I like or not. LOL.

I am glad you had a good fathers day. I had a great one also. If you are not doing this already keep track of your strength levels on your weight lifting exercises. It is one indication of your muscle/fat ration.

I'll be getting a dog soon for the very same reason!

Well done on the loss this week.

I like incidental exercise, it dosen't seem like I'm torturing myself! lol

Good job! Keep up the downward movement on the scale!

Lily T - LOL, that is true.

Captain - Thanks. I am sort of limited with the weight right now. I maxed out my set of dumbbells with certain lifts months ago. But I do keep a log of all my weight lifting and cardio.

Chicken Girl - Thanks. I don't know what a "meme" is. Everytime I click on your name or the "meme" link, I get a download file window that pops up. Since I am not sure what that is all about, I always cancel. What is up with that?

Christine - Thanks. I am quite humbled when I hear remarks like that. I find motivation from sites like yours. I started my blog to motivate myself. I never imagined I would motivate others.

Sayre - I love dogs. I had them all my life while growing up. But alas, my wife has allergies, but she is well worth giving up dogs for.

Celtic - thanks...I agree about the incidental exercise except this time my daughter was torturing me. "Daddy, one more time pleeeeeaaaase!" as she looks at me with those sad eyes.

Spidey - Thanks

Here's the same post on my livejournal.

What a great way to get exercise, helping your daughter to learn to ride a bike! (That just rocks on a lot of levels). You sound like a great dad, and I'm sure your daughter will appreciate some day all you're doing for your own health.

(My Dad didn't take care of his health & I lost him far too soon).

Way to go on your wt loss. You are doing great. Good going on jogging by your daughter. I hate jogging too but it is getting a bit easier so now I have to work on increasing my distance. I'm real slow and it is sweaty torture and gets my heart going quick but it feels great after the workout.

Crabby - That is certainly one of my motivation for living fit.

Angelfish24 - She is getting braver. Yesterday, she didn't need be to run beside her. Instead, she wanted me to get her started then run ahead of her to the end of the block so I would be there when she stopped. Anyhow, it was more anaerobic with all the stopping then running all out. Still good exercise.
