Weight Loss Ticker

Yikes!

288...Two hundred eighty-eight pounds was the number on the scale. No doubt, it was higher than that. It's frightening how fast it seemed to pile on. I know it was a slower process, but it didn't feel that way. One day, clothes were fitting a litter tighter. I told myself to eat better and exercise more. The next thing I knew, clothes simply didn't fit. It felt like one day everything was fine and the next it was all out of whack. Of course, there is more to the story. As I get more time, I will try to map out what happened in hopes that it will motivate me to continue and serve as a lesson so that I can take steps to avoid it in the future.

Right now, it is simply a new starting point. No use in getting all depressed and down. The fact is that I have done much to return to a fit lifestyle in the last few weeks. Since I hadn't given up all my fit habits, it hasn't been that difficult of a transition. Now the I have stepped out of denial onto the shores of reality, I look forward with great hope and expectation.

Thanks to all for your encouraging comments.

Knowing why can be half the battle. Of course, the other half is doing something about it. Sounds like you've got a handle on both of them!

Even if we restart from the same weight or heavier, the knowledge of where we went wrong last time is with us this time

It would be great if you could map out where things began to turn so we can all learn from your experience as well.

I think it is very heartening is that you didn't surrender all your new habits. That in itself is a huge triumph and means that some of the habits you developed have become a part of you. Now you just have to work on the others that slipped away and find strategies to integrate them more deeply. An exciting journey ahead!!!

You're right. There is no need to get down and depressed about it. Taking the pragmatic route would surely ensure your success in the future. Slip-ups are common, but it's regaining our momentum and dealing with how to proceed after them that has always been the greatest challenge. And in your case, you have overcome it gracefully.

Great attitude towards your progress forward. Looking at it as a new starting point should keep your motivation up. I agree with you that there is definitely no reason to get depressed, because anyone can get the dream body they want!

Keep working at it! My doctor put me on something called Phentermine (def not for everybody as it IS an amphetamine). It keeps me from being hungry or even thinking about food, and has the added benefit of increased energy.

I am 5'4", and a 27 yr old female and mother to a 3 yr old. On March 16th weighed 226lbs. As of today, June 26th I weigh 195.

Part of that is to my new "diet" which is 1300kcal a day. My doctor said that the average person should eat about 10 calories a day for every pound of body weight. Well, I'd been "trying" to stay around 2,000, but would often go over. Which explains EXACTLY why I weighed what I did. Once I realized that, its SO much easier to cut out the un-needed calories. No, I DONT need that cheeseburger to survive. . .

He also has me set up so that I eat only high fiber carbs, and 70-90g of protein a day.

I haven't read too much of your blog, so I don't want to feel that I'm lecturing or anything. I just was inspired by the few I did read and wanted to impart some of the things I've learned along the way. I've wanted to go on a diet for years, but would not start any diet unless I knew that I was going to make it. Having watched people yo-yo. I've been studying diets for 6 years.

EAS Advantage Shakes ($5/4pk at WalMart) are high protein, low carb, and relatively low calorie. NO MATTER WHAT NEVER TOUCH SLIM FAST. Too much sugar! The name of the game is controlling your insulin levels through protein intake and limited sugar/carb intake. You should eat every 2-3 hours while you're awake. and NEVER TOUCH DIET SODA (Aspartame prevents weight loss)

I'm also bicycling my ass off -- literally. I just completed a 40 mile trip with my kid on the back, and that makes for 250 miles this month. And over 500 miles in 2010. My first year on a bike in over 14. Because of the biking I do eat carbs, but in reading about how to be a better biker, I've learned that if I do eat carbs to do it 30-60 min before a ride, and immediately (within 20min) after a ride. . . and serve yourself on a fancy kids plate so you CANT serve too much. Get yourself a brand new Batman Plate! You'll eat your food, and then chuckle when you see the plate. You'll feel good, and it won't be the food that caused it. . . so if the food doesn't make you happy you won't keep hunting for more.

Good Luck! You can do it!!
