Quick Note

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes. My wife is doing a little better each day, but is still a ways off from being back to normal. I have been incredibly busy. I am back on track with exercising, but I have derailed a bit as far as eating healthy. I have not given up or anything, but I need to do much much better. Other priorities outweigh blogging at this point. I wish everyone well. Not sure when I will blog again, but hopefully very soon.

Pneumonia

My wife was admitted to the hospital this morning with pneumonia. She has been feeling so miserable the past few days. I am glad she is finally getting treatment, but she is still quite weak and sick. Some nice people from our church have arranged to bring meals to us for the next couple of days, and my in-laws have come to stay with us for a few days. I am thankful for the help. Will post again as time permits.

Week 58 Weigh-In

Last Week's Weight: 252.8 lbs.
Today's Weight: 257.2 lbs. (+4.4)
Total Lost: 122.8 lbs.

Fat Ratio: 24.9%
Lean Mass: 193.2 lbs.
Fat Mass: 65 lbs.
Waist: 49 inches

Okay, I think I have rebounded from the sickness. I am not bothered by the gain. In fact, I am relieved by it. My thinking is that the weight loss during my illness was in great part due the loss of liquids and solid matters that would normally be in my system. In addition, because of the lack of exercise and sustenance, I was afraid that I would have lost a lot of muscle. I suspected and hoped that my weight would creep back up to where it was before the illness. I am sure I lost some muscle anyhow, but I am thinking it wasn't too bad.

We are not all healthy yet. My wife is still nauseous. My one daughter who had survived it all finally came down with it in her ears. The baby is sick as well. I still have this sinus thing hanging on, but it is getting better. I did some weight training this morning, and plan to do some running after work. Once I get back into a routine, the numbers will be a bit more meaningful to me. The strange thing is that my hips went down an inch, but my waist is the same. I look forward to the day when my waist is smaller than my hips.

Quick Update from the Sick-House

Thanks for all your well wishes. I hope this crap turns around soon, but we are far from out of the woods.

My 2 year old woke up with pink eye this morning. I woke up coughing for about an hour. I was called home from work this afternoon at 4:15 to find my wife crawling on the floor, burning up with a fever, but refusing to go to the hospital. Thankfully, our family doctor is a friend and today, he was on rounds so he came over to the house and saw her. by the time the rest of my kids got home, the 4 year old and 8 year had ear infections and the six year old had a sore throat. Now, my wife has vomited a few times. Everyone has fevers including the baby. He and I seem to be the healthiest at this time (knock on wood).

I am taking all the family to the doctor's tomorrow. Will this ever end?! HELLPPPPPP!!!!!! cough..cough...hack...hack. Not sure when I will be back to exercising, but it won't come soon enough for me!

Weeks 56-57 Weigh-Ins

February 25, 2008
Weight: 257.8 lbs.
Today's Weight: 258.8 lbs. (+1.0)
Total Lost: 121.2 lbs.

March 3, 2008
Weight: 258.8 lbs.
Today's Weight: 252.8 lbs. (-6.0)
Total Lost: 127.2 lbs.

This weight loss is due to sickness (see previous post). I should gain some of this weight back by next weigh-in. This stupid sinus thing is really throwing me for a loop after the stomach virus. I was hoping to be back to my regular routine by now, but no dice. I woke up this morning and coughed almost non-stop for an hour. Anyhow, I have to get some work done today. I am soooo far behind.

Feeling Less than Half-Man

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I got really busy then a stomach virus made its way through our house leaving a nasty sinus thingy behind. I did weigh in last Monday (2/25) at 258.8 lbs. which was a 1 lb. gain. No big deal. However the previous night, 3 of our little darlings came down with the stomach virus. I was still doing well, but needless to say I was busy helping my wife when I could.

The next day, the baby got it. Wednesday my wife got it. I took Wednesday off to help take care of the family. About 5 PM on Wednesday, I had an epiphany. When you eat healthy, nutritious, vitamin and mineral rich foods combined with healthy amounts of cardiovascular and weight training exercises, the diseases that hit normal people don't give a rat's ass!!! I had it coming out both ends so bad that I ended up in the ER due to dehydration. They put me on an IV, pain killers, anti-nausea medicine and the like.

Yesterday, I was feeling much better as far as the stomach virus went, but this sinus thing kicked in and I was miserable yesterday. Today, I am doing much better, but still feel crappy. Now, my wife has been wiped out by this sinus thing.

Before I forget, that stomach virus caused me to lose 11 lbs. in 3 days. This is not a recommended dieting technique. Nor do I believe that this is healthy weight loss. I am certain that much of the weight will return as the fluids in my body normalize. I was up a couple of pounds this morning from yesterday, and hopefully (in a strange way), I will be up a few more pounds for my official weigh-in tomorrow. Even that, will not be all that realistic. The following week's weigh in will be more telling. I just hope I am feeling well enough tomorrow to do some sort of exercising. I just don't think running in the cold will be one of those exercises until this sinus thing gets a bit better.
