Weight Loss Ticker

Positive Step but still swimming in Egypt's River

Last week I did about 3 hours of weight training stretched over four different days. My plan is to do 3 days a week, but I missed one the week before and wanted to catch up.

I ran five days last week. Three at my speed. Twice at squishy speed. That equals 22 miles and five hours.

My eating habits are getting better, but still not where I would like them to be. Looking back, I had really fallen back into some bad habits. I need to be more patient with myself. I didn't turn my eating habits on a dime. I can't expect my eating, exercising, and metabolism to magically go back to where they were. I need to work at it. I do see progress.

The last thing I need to do is start my Monday weigh-ins again. I was in denial. I gained a lot of weight fast. However, I haven't been able to weigh myself on Monday mornings for various reasons. I haven't gained all the weight back, but I am embarrassed, sickened, and depressed by how much I gained. As much as my mind tells me that the scale in not as important as other aspects, psychologically it kills me. Next Monday I will post my weight. I will no longer be in denial.

To keep myself in reality, I am living a much more fit lifestyle than I was a few weeks ago. I am eating healthy. I am exercising. I am strength training. I am going to get this right.

I watched that new show with Jillian from the Biggest Loser last night. She said that "trying" is just an excuse to quit (or something like that). I think she is right. I am not going to try to live fit. I am living fit. I am going to continue to live fit.

Living Fit Is My #1 Job!

It's not the weight, it's the lifestyle and the direction you are moving in.

You may have lost it for a while and regained weight and become less fit, but what you have also done is stop the slide - and that takes some doing.

Turning it around is harder than staying on course.

All praise to you for managing it.

Standing on those scales and posting your weight are not visible marks of your failure, they are an sign of your success facing your demons

Yoda said it...."Do or do not - there is no try."

A lot of the time, I do. And some of the time, I do not. But these days, more often than not, I DO. That's my goal - to live a healthy life with the VERY occasional indulgence, but overall, healthy!

I start anew every day.

I completely agree with Kim and Sayre. This is a journey not a destination and all of us who have been on it understand that it is hard as hell and we take some steps forward and some back but in the end if we keep working we take more forward that backward.

You will always be my hero because you get the job done. I watched you do some incredible work before when you were blogging and I was always amazed that with a family to raise, a demanding job, an ailing father and fighting the blues, you could do such a good job of taking care of yourself, even when you went on vacation. Instead of talking the talk you walked the walk. It's easy to say but HARD to do.

So what if you've put back on a bit of weight. First, from your first post back, sounds as though you've had a very hard year with the lost of your dad and all and in any case I firmly believe that the skills required for maintaining are slightly different from the skills required to lose. So now you know that in the future you have to figure out a strategy for maintaining your success.

Right now, in the present you're back with a vengeance and really that's all that matters. We learn from yesterday but we live in today.

Love that! Definitely helps you put in perspective what you NEED to be doing rather than what you are TRYING to do.

Good luck! Sounds like you need a bit of encouragement and a cheerleader! You can do it!

The is a very good statement to live by. Trying is just one big push towards a goal. I like to use the word achieving, because you don't stop achieving until you have at least reached your goal.

With trying you can try, say it's too hard, and then give up. Your words of living a healthy lifestyle sound great. Remember you are what you eat from your head to your feet! haha.
